Electrical distributors buy, sell, and deliver thousands of products from manufacturing companies to users such as electrical and building contractors, factory maintenance staff, do-it-yourselfers, and service professionals. These electrical construction materials include wiring supplies, electric light fixtures, light bulbs, security systems and other electrical power equipment, such as switchboards, circuit breakers and fuses. But even though we deal with products, the focus is on building relationships with customers and fellow employees.

Operations Management Trainee (OMT)

Overview:

Location: Curtis Bay, MD and Chantilly, VA Department: Transportation/Warehouse Reports To: Director of Distribution Your Role Initially, this person will spend a significant amount of time rotating through job roles in the distribution center to learn the key components of the operations side of Dominion and provide support/ leadership as needed in various roles. As the individual gains experience in this role, they will assume people management responsibility and be expected to increase their impact to the company through their activity and the activity of the people they manage. This position is designed to provide upward mobility, assuming availability, within 2 years.

• Work with individuals across departments to develop knowledge of warehouse impact to various internal partners.
• Provide training or training opportunities and perform evaluations of direct reports.
• Gather, measure, and interpret data critical to improving processes within the distribution center and in support of internal partners.
• Participate in meetings with purchasing, warehouse, transportation, and outside distribution centers to enhance knowledge of the processes and develop relationships necessary to collaborate effectively.
• Leads continuous improvement efforts while applying lean thinking and tools to identify and eliminate waste.

Role Specifics:

• Travel – Occasional overnight travel to other company facilities or outside facilities for training. Must have ability to travel independently as needed, without restriction by all modes of transportation, including car, plane, or train
• Working Environment – Ability to work in all temperature conditions
• Schedule – Ability to work flexible hours (weekend, night shift and on-call) based upon facility needs

Estimator (Chantilly

Looking for a quality employee with self-structure and motivation. Must have a competitive nature and able to work in a team environment. Responsibilities include: - Read and understand electrical and architectural drawings.
- Identify discrepancies in drawings, fixture schedules and lighting specifications.
- Provide accurate and timely fixture and lighting control material lists.
- Request pricing and lead times through manufacturer and reps
- Work diligently with all divisions of our Commercial Lighting and Outside Sales team.
- Have some knowledge of lighting controls.
- Be self-motivated and self-structured.
- Must be detail oriented.
- Must maintain focus for time management
- 2-5 years of estimating experience
- Experience in reviewing construction plans, specifications, and other related construction documents.
- Experience with Bluebeam, Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook
- Electrical field experience a plus, but not a necessity
The estimators generally have more than 5-6 years of experience. All work on jobs from 5,000 – 25,000,000. They are responsible for very large projects that have a lot of risk involved.

Operations Service Manager

The Operations Manager position requires a seasoned professional with a minimum of 5 years of experience in operations management. The individual will play a crucial role in maintaining a safe working environment, overseeing diverse distribution service programs, and managing staff effectively. This includes responsibility for Project Material Handling Services, Consignment Inventory Services, Storage Services, Residential Bundling Services, Showroom Services, and Customer Assembly Services.
The role involves not only developing and managing operational processes but also ensuring continuous improvement through process analysis. Exceptional communication skills are essential, as the Operations Manager will interact with managers, staff, salespeople, and external partners. Proficiency in utilizing various software tools, including warehouse management software and business applications, is required. A Bachelor's Degree in Business, Information Systems, Supply Chain, or a related field is preferred, though relevant experience in project management, customer support, or distribution operations may be considered in lieu of a degree. Direct sales experience would be an advantageous addition to the candidate's profile.
Additionally, a strong understanding of Dominion's product offerings, including materials, conduit, and wire, is expected. This role offers a dynamic opportunity for a strategic and results-oriented professional to contribute to the success of the organization through effective operations management.

Warehouse Operations Manager (1 PM-9:30 PM, M-F)

Salaried position – later hours (approximately 1pm – 9pm weekdays)
As a Distribution Manager, the primary focus is on maintaining a safe and efficient working environment while overseeing outbound pick, pack, and load operations at the distribution center. This role involves comprehensive management of staff, recruitment processes, work assignments, and schedules. The candidate will play a key role in motivating teams, ensuring high morale, and conducting performance evaluations, including the implementation of action plans as needed.
In addition to personnel management, the Distribution Manager will be responsible for overseeing established outbound distribution processes. This includes analyzing and maintaining key performance indicators, identifying trends, and spearheading process improvement initiatives. Effective communication is paramount, involving clear and timely interactions with internal and external stakeholders. The role requires excellent verbal and written skills, the ability to develop and deliver presentations, and coordination with other operational departments.
A key aspect of the position is becoming proficient in business applications and tools essential for departmental operations, such as warehouse management software (Solar Eclipse), add-on applications (Innovo Stockroom, Phocas), office software tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and various warehouse equipment. Understanding Dominion's product and service offerings, including materials, conduit, wire, and Operations Services (consignment inventory, direct-to-stock services), is crucial. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 5 years of warehouse management experience, including at least 2 years of supervisory experience. While a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Liberal Arts, or a related field is preferred, an Associate’s Degree or relevant warehouse management experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. This role presents an opportunity for a skilled operations professional to contribute to the efficiency and success of the distribution center.

Wire Operations Manager - Chantilly, VA & Baltimore, MD

As the Wire Operations Manager, the primary responsibility is to ensure the safety of the work environment while overseeing all aspects of wire operations. This encompasses day-to-day Will Call and Delivery Wire Order processing, management of Scheduled Project Orders, control and replenishment of physical wire inventory, and supervision of wire equipment such as reel tracking and machine maintenance.
The role involves the development and management of wire services processes, including the implementation of new services, analysis of key performance indicators, and continuous improvement initiatives. Effective communication is essential, requiring excellent verbal and written skills, timely interaction with stakeholders, and the ability to engage in sales and customer communication. The position also involves collaboration with other operations departments to ensure seamless coordination.
To optimize wire services operations, proficiency in software tools is crucial, including warehouse management software (Solar Eclipse), add-on applications (Phocas, project management tools), and standard office software tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). The Wire Operations Manager is expected to evaluate, recommend, and implement new tools to enhance efficiency.
A comprehensive understanding of Dominion Wire's product offerings is required, including knowledge of aluminum and copper feeder cable, various wire insulation types (THHN, XHHW, etc.), and specialty wires (MC, Medium voltage, service, greenfield, etc.).
Position Requirements:
Minimum of 5 years of Operations management experience, with a preference for experience in project and service program management. Strong customer interaction and communication skills. Experience in wire cutting or wire sales is a plus.
Degree Requirement:
Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Business, Supply Chain, Liberal Arts, or a related field. Relevant experience in project management, wire sales, wire processing, or distribution may be considered in lieu of a degree. This role offers a dynamic opportunity for an experienced Operations Manager to contribute to the success of wire operations, ensuring efficiency, safety, and effective communication in the handling of wire services.

Counter Sales (Several Positions)

The counter salesperson is the face of Dominion to many of our day-to-day customers. We are always looking knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly counter sales staff for our multiple branches throughout the DC–Maryland-Virginia area. Counter sales staff must be able to:
- Sell distributor products and services
- Determine and disseminate customer price and availability information
- Recognize the need for special pricing and provide competitive quotations.
- Understand product applications and assist customers in their selections.
- Participate in offered training sessions.
- Expedite customer orders through the purchasing department.
- Interact with sales managers, outside sales staff, purchasing, and marketing to provide customer and sales information.
- Stay up-to-date and informed on products and their applications.
- Work with accounting and warehouse staff to process sales; pick up orders from warehouse as needed.
Keep all counter displays and areas current, clean and neat, and other duties assigned by the department manager, director, or VP. Applicants should possess good interpersonal communication and persuasive selling skills, plus a working knowledge of electrical materials and products. Previous sales experience and/or electrical industry experience are required.
